From makers of remote patient monitoring tools to creators of interactive software platforms, more than a dozen emerging health-tech innovators with solutions that focus on helping older adults age will present their ideas to investors and health industry experts during a day-long event.
From makers of remote patient monitoring tools to creators of interactive software platforms, more than a dozen emerging health-tech innovators with solutions that focus on helping older adults age will present their ideas to investors and health industry experts during a day-long event. On Monday, Feb. 24, GuideWell will host its 2020 Aging in Place innovation showcase at its innovation center in Orlando's Lake Nona Medical City.
This unique one-day event offers entrepreneurs opportunities to present their business models, engage in one-one-one meetings with industry experts, participate in business development workshops and connect with a national network of health-technology investors.
Kirstie McCool, executive director of GuideWell Innovation, said as the population ages, it’s critical to support families and older adults as they age in their homes.
“Our unique program is a win-win; providing us with an opportunity to consider innovations that might help us enhance how we deliver care to health care consumers and assisting emerging health-tech companies with like-minded initiatives scale their businesses,” she said.
The cohort consists of 10 health-technology companies from across the country specializing in solutions that address the critical gaps in providing affordable, accessible health care or holistic solutions for older adults to comfortably stay in their homes.
The 10 startups selected to participate in the showcase are:
CareAcademy (Boston): - Provides home-care agencies with a mobile-friendly online education platform that delivers engaging video-based training classes and real-world caregiving scenarios.
Care.Coach (Millbrae, Calif.): - A digital caregiver service that uses a human-powered avatar to coach seniors on how to manage chronic conditions, while also providing 24/7 psychosocial support and companionship through a web-based family portal.
CareTree (Chicago): - A centralized software platform that allows family caregivers to communicate with their loved one’s care team and collectively manage their care.
CarrotHealth (Minneapolis): – A software platform that combines a wealth of public data (both individually identifiable consumer data and survey data) to create one of the largest data sets in the industry for both payers and health care providers.
Corstrata (Savannah, Ga.): Provides consultations and other digital services for wound prevention and care management.
Livindi, Inc. (Wayland, Mass.): - The personalized platform allows family members to have video calls with their loved ones to minimize the impact of social isolation. Through a battery-operated sensor, the technology also senses what is happening in the home and sends alerts to family members. In addition, family caregivers can talk with a concierge to order services to the home, including transportation, housekeeping and meal delivery.
NextGen RPM (Roanoke, Texas): A concierge remote patient monitoring tool to improve home care and reduce unnecessary ER visits and hospitalizations. NextGen RPM provides wellness coaching and helps patients and caregivers adhere to a treatment plan (exercise, nutrition counseling and medication adherence).
UnaliWear (Austin, Texas): A discreet wearable device that provides support for falls, medication reminders, and a guard against wandering in a voice-controlled watch with built-in artificial intelligence.
Uniper Care (Los Angeles, CA): A tech-enabled health and wellness service empowering older adults to be physically and socially active at home. Delivered over the TV and web, Uniper’s evidence-based interactive programs aim to reduce social isolation and promote preventive care at home.
Kaizen Health (Chicago, Ill.):Dedicated to improving community access to health care by providing a transportation logistics hub that helps patients get to their medical appointments.
In addition to the 10 companies listed above, four others focused on caregiving solutions are invited to attend. They are finalists in GuideWell's Caring for Caregivers health innovation challenge.
